Ruth Propper Ph.D. (June 2007-July 2008)

Ruth is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at Merrimack College. After receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Toledo in Cognitive Neuropsychology in 1997, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Mental Health Research Center, Laboratory of Neurophysiology, in the Laboratory of Allan Hobson and Robert Stickgold.

Ruth's research investigates the neural substrates of episodic and semantic memory. From a behavioral perspective, she is particularly interested in factors associated with improved memory, and in factors that decontextualize episodic memories. From a physiological perspective, she is interested in the contributions of the cerebral hemispheres generally, and of the frontal lobes especially, to recollection, in the mechanisms by which the two hemispheres interact during recollection, and in the physiological means by which episodic memories may be stripped of their experiential component to become semantic memories.
