Sarah Frisken Ph.D.

Sarah Frisken is a Research Associate in the Department of Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Frisken joined Brigham and Women’s Hospital after selling her company, 61 Solutions, Inc., where she created and brought-to-market Mischief, a digital drawing software system for professional artists. Prior to that, she was a contracting researcher for Disney Research, a full Professor at Tufts University, and a Distinguished Research Scientist at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs. She has published numerous papers in computer graphics and scientific visualization and holds more than 50 issued US and international patents.

Dr. Frisken currently works with neurosurgeon Dr. Alexandra Golby to develop new algorithms and an image-guidance system to improve accuracy and precision during neurosurgery. This research effort includes image segmentation, non-rigid registration, soft-tissue modeling, scientific visualization, augmented reality, hardware design and development (particularly for 3D ultrasound and a robotic camera system) and both hardware and software engineering.
